Overview

Welcome!

During this course, you'll learn the basics of how the game industry works. From the essential terminology to the most essential roles in game development.

The course will cover the following subjects:

  1. Game development and what are its phases.
  2. Basics of the industry and different gaming platforms.
  3. Roles in game development; what the different roles entail.

Game development has many assumptions circling around it, and while some of them may be true, others are less so. There are still people that consider gaming as just something for kids, but this is far from the case. Making games is a real job that can bring success and valuable life experiences.

It's an industry that offers jobs to people with all kinds of different talents. Making games as a profession has become one of the most sought out jobs. On top of that, the game industry offers job opportunities for other staff outside of game developers like marketing, accounting, and IT support. Nothing dictates how games should be done, or who should be making them. Passion is all you need to get started.

Not Just for Fun

Not all games need to about entertainment, as they can also be educational for all ages. So-called serious games aim to impact their players in a variety of ways. Small children can play them to support their learning, and they can also be used in rehabilitating disabled patients after an accident or a stroke.

Opportunities are endless in the game development; it all just depends on you and your passion. You can aim to take your place in the game industry or enjoy making games in your free time, as long as you enjoy it.
