On top of managing people, a producer manages the project itself. You have to be aware of what needs to be done by what deadline. Projects are handled best when they are split down into smaller, more manageable portions.
Click on the flashcards to learn about task management.
Backlog
The backlog is a collection of tasks that need to be done. The tasks that are not urgent or should be worked on later, should be in the backlog.
To Do
Tasks that are in the to-do the state should be worked on soon. They are tasks that, at the moment, anyone could start working on.
In Progress
If someone is currently working on a task, it's in progress. This is so everyone knows start handling that particular task, since someone is already doing it.
Testing
Testing is an optional stage. If there are tasks that you need feedback on or that need testing, they'll go here. The playable character's movement might need some comments from the designer before it can be marked as complete, for example.
Completed
This is for tasks that are 100% ready. Once you've completed a task, you can start working on another task from the to-do -list.
Keeping track of every task can become overwhelming fast, so using management tools might be a good idea. In this lesson, we will learn the basics of HacknPlan. It's a free project management tool made specifically for game development.
