Node-RED Installation

In the following video, we will guide you through the process of installing the Node-RED app from the IBM cloud's catalog.

If you cannot view the video, the same information is delivered to you in the element below the video. After you have completed the tasks, please go through the knowledge checks.

Creation of the Node-RED App

Here's the same information that is shown in the video step by step.

Get REDy!

Step 1.

Catalog

  • Go to the IBM Cloud Catalog and search for the Node-RED App on the search bar and click it

Step 2.

Overview Window

  • In the overview window, click the "Get started" button

Step 3.

App Details

  • Give the App a name that you will remember later
  • Make sure that "Node.js" is selected
  • For the region, use the same one you have used previously
  • Finally, click the "Create" button

Step 4.

Patience

  • Wait until the "Deploy your app" button turns blue.
  • This can take a while
  • After the button has caught the blues, click it.

Step 5.

Deployment Automation

  • Choose Cloud Foundry
  • Create a new API key by clicking New and then OK
  • The key will appear on the slot. This needs to be copied somewhere!
  • Once more, use the same region you have used before.
  • Hostname might have to be changed to something that is not in use.
  • Click the next button

Step 6.

Configuring the DevOps Toolchain

  • And once more for the people in the back, use the same region as previously you have used.
  • Click the "Create" button.

Step 7.

Patience, part II

  • Wait till the processing is finished
  • Afterwards, move from your cloud dashboard to the Resource list

Step 8.

Resource List

  • From here, find the "Cloud Foundry apps"
  • Under it you will find the Node-RED app
  • Note that it may take several minutes for the app to appear, you may have to refresh your browser
  • Click the app, once it has appeared on the list

Step 9.

App Overview

  • Click the "Visit App URL" link
  • This will open a new window
  • On the first page click next
  • On the second page, create a username and password
  • Tick the "Allow anyone to view the editor, but not make any changes" box
  • More information can be found on the third page
  • On the final page, just click "Finish"
